Sunday 10th September 2023 saw the Mens County Domestic Finals be played at Maulden Bowls Club on another very hot and humid day.

The Mixed Pairs Final was played in the morning between Stotfolds Debbie Roe and Mark Amos v's Mike and Nicollette Wade from Ampthill. A very close, tactical and long game on a green that changed dramatically as the sun got hotter and hotter. Debbie and Mark eventually secured the victory 18-16 after picking up a 5 midway.

Mark Amos then had to play again in the afternoon in the Tompkins Cup final against Richard Fensome of Meltis, the game was held back due to a hail storm that turned the green white but eventually the game started and Mark won the first 4 ends before the rain stopped play again, once the match resumed Mark always seemed in control, he won the last end with a 3 to win the game 21-13

STOTFOLD v's DESBOROUGH TOWN - played Friday 14th July 2023 at Brampton Bowls Club (neutral green)

ALL ENGLAND ROUND OF 32.

This was a very big game for the Stotfold Ladies and captain Debbie Roe and the team all travelled to Brampton Bowls Club in Huntingdon in terrible conditions not knowing if the game would go ahead but on arrival the rain slowed to allow play to start.

It was a very close and well fought competitive match over all 4 of the games with Stotfold winning the Pairs and the Fours but unfortunately loosing in the Singles and the Triples, so with a 2 all draw over the 4 disciplines the final result was decided on shots scored with Desborough getting the victory with a final result of Stotfold 54 - Desborough 72

STOTFOLD V's FLITWICK - played Saturday 1st July 2023

AREA FINAL match which was played at home on a grey morning which after a slight rain stayed dry for the players. Neither of the teams had ever got this far in the competition so we all knew it was going to be very competitive. The teams were welcomed onto the green by Alison Hammond and Jan Butlin our County representatives. A very even start by all the players, the singles game swapping shot for shot, the pairs loosing shots on the first 2 ends but then never looked back, the Triples 4 down after 4 ends but then stepped up a gear and picked up a 6 along the way, the fours were up against a very strong Flitwick team but never gave up and all put in some excellent shots. The Stotfold ladies all played very well, they all supported each other showing great team spirit, helped along by many supporters who clapped and cheered winning woods. Our Stotfold Ladies stayed strong until the end and got the winning result they deserved and are now Bedfordshire Ladies Top Club Champions, they will now play Desborough Town Bowls Club in the All England round of 32 teams to be played on a neutral green, date and time to follow.

Biggleswade beat Stotfold 3 - 1

A National Disaster

After seeing off Bedford Borough on their patch in the previous round of the National Top Club our ladies were hosts to Biggleswade in the next round. Biggleswade took command from the first bowl, Margaret Cahill Lost her singles 6 – 21, our pair of Debbie Roe and Beryl Clegg lost 8 – 22, and the rink lost 6 – 35 leaving the only bright spark, our triple of June Bentley, Sheila Clayton and Jo Gould who won 16 - 14

08.06.2017

National Men's Top Club

Flitwick Beat Stotfold 3 -2

So Close all the way

We were away to Flitwick in the 2nd round of the National Top Club, once again Mark Amos got us off to a winning start in the two bowl singles. Alan Offord was next to finish his four bowl singles, starting well, three up after two ends being overtaken then trailing all the way until the eighteenth end, 13 – 13 at that stage, losing ground then levelling at 20 – 20, one more needed but Alan lost. It was a similar story for our triple 23 – 23 with one end to play, this was taken by Flitwick, and the rink was almost the same, fifteen all after sixteen ends, 19 – 18 up with one end to play but they dropped a three and the match was lost, a consolation for Peter Jones and Terry Regan who 16 – 13

04.06.2017

Lady's National Top Club

Stotfold beat Bedford Borough 75 - 72

A close call

Our ladies were involved in their National Top Club, a trip to Bedford Borough to try their luck on the artificial surface. Margaret Cahill lost 18 – 21 in the singles, Debbie Roe and Beryl Clegg dropped a four and a five in their pair’s game but still won 30 – 16, valuable points for. June Bentley, Sheila Clayton and Jo Gould won 16 – 11 but our four of Kate McBeal, Marion Amos, Elaine Drury and Pat Wisbey lost 11 – 25 , two disciplines all so the match was decide on shots for, 75 – 73 in our favour and have a home tie against Biggleswade

04.06.2017

EBDBL Knockout Cup

Stotfold "B" beat Langford "A" 48 - 19

What a knockout

Our “B" side had to play Langford in the EBDBL Knockout Cup, they delivered a crushing blow and Langford were counted out. With both of our triples 12 -2 up after eight ends there was no doubt who would win. Ron Williams, Michael Everitt and Terry Regan were almost caught at 13 – 9 after thirteen ends but pulled away and had to be content with an 18 – 10 win. Dave Beckett, Ro Legate and Barry Albon had three fives and a four in their total, their opponents had five singles and a four so there was no doubt about the result, 30 – 9.

4.06.2017

National 2X4's

Stotfold lost to Linslade 34 - 45

Another exit

Linslade made themselves at home, having tied the first end, took the lead on the second end and never lost it. Brian Every, Maurice Legate and Bob Bell dropped a four and a six in their 12 – 24 defeat, Frank Amos, Charles Lewis, Kevin Eversden and Alan Offord were on level terms, seven all after seven, ten all after ten, thirteen all after fourteen then almost sharing the last seven ends but won 22 -21

02.06.2017

National 2X4's

Stotfold lost to Maulden 34 - 35

Close but not close enough

In a game of changing fortunes there were two closely matched sides, the lead changed hands seven times, the scores were level on four occasions. Apart from the second end where home advantage held sway, with Stotfold leading by four shots there was never more than three shots until the sixteenth end where they were five up. They lost seven shots in two ends, two down, got the lead back t to three shots up with one end to play, well dome Maulden, they scored four shots to win by a single. Dave Beckett, Dean Wood, Mark Amos and Barry Albon were on terms at six all after seven ends took the lead with a two but fell behind and were 9 – 13 down after thirteen ends , pulled back to level the game after sixteen ends but lost shots over the remainder of the game, 15 – 23 down. Peter Jones, Tony Ding, Ro Legate and Terry Regan were also six all after seven ends, and were five up after twelve, retained this advantage until the sixteenth end and increased the margin to 1 9- 12 at the end

01.06.2017

National Lady's Champion of Champions

Margaret Cahill lost 15 - 21

A noble effort

As Club Champion Margaret Cahill was drawn to play Barbara Carter of Wilstead and got off to a good start. After dropping a three on the first end, Margaret was 11 – 3 up after five ends and was half way to a win, Barbara had other ideas and took command of the game and ran out a 21 -15 winner, bad luck Margaret

28.05.2017

Men's Top Club

Stotfold beat Barton-le-Clay 3 - 2

In the two bowls singles Mark Amos gave us the perfect start, defeating last year’s County winner 14 11. Alan Offord was not quite so fortunate, losing 15 – 21 to a player who knew every blade of grass on the rink. Our pair of Terry Regan and Barry Albon were next to finish with a 22 – 16 win and we needed a win from one of the other two disciplines which came with a 21 – 8 victory by our triple of Ro Legate, Bob Bell and Ron Williams. Our rink of Dave Beckett, Dean Wood (dragged from his bed because a selected player phoned in sick), Michael Everitt and Kevin Eversden dropped six shots to lose 16 – 22

26.05.2017

County Mixed Fours

Margaret and Alan won 20 - 19

Only Just

Margaret Cahill and Alan Offord played the preliminary round away, with a five on one end they built a 14 – 7 lead after twelve ends but stuck and were caught, 14 -15 down after eleven ends, back level on the next, eighteen all after nine teen, then it was 20 – 18 with one to play, they lost a single to win
